Colorado State University cultural anthropologist Susan Harness explored issues of ethnic belonging, social hierarchy and social memory and their impact on adult American Indian transracial adoptees - like herself - who were adopted in the 1950s and 1960s. Although these adoptees experienced being "Indian" and being "White," they are not wholly accepted by either ethnicity.
