The Colorado State University’s Health Network is hosting a Faith and Medicine Symposium on how religious beliefs can be incorporated into the treatment of mental health and addiction as well as end of life issues. The event will be held from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 on campus in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom. Registration for the event begins at 8:30 a.m.

This year’s goal for Cans Around the Oval, sponsored by CSU’s SLiCE organization- Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement –is to collect more than 100,000 pounds of food, beating last year’s total of 84,000 pounds.

Some years ago when I visited Poland sugar was rationed and our hosts were ecstatic that we brought chocolate bars for the children. In America today sugar is used in food processing and stirred in and sprinkled on foods made at home. If you’re counting, one teaspoon of granulated sugar equals 16 calories and those teaspoons can add up quickly. Drinking one 12-ounce regular soft drink means taking in about 15 teaspoons which translates into 5 tablespoons of sugar!
