Colorado State Students Clean-Up Community
FORT COLLINS - FORT COLLINS-- Off-Campus Life at Colorado State University and the City of Fort Collins Neighborhood Services Office are teaming up for the 5th annual Adopt-A-Neighbor Fall Clean-Up event. The clean-up will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 throughout the Fort Collins community and run until 1:00 p.m.
Nearly 600 student volunteers will rake leaves, wash windows, clean gutters, trim bushes, and assist in other yard work tasks. The program will provide support to 90 elderly or disabled community members who need help maintaining their yards this fall season. This year, Off-Campus Life is extending its outreach by providing disposal services for the collected leaves.
“Each year, I have the privilege of reading many thank you notes from elderly residents telling us that the yard maintenance done during the Fall Clean-Up makes it possible for them to stay in their homes,” said Melissa Emerson, Assistant Director of Off-Campus Life at Colorado State University. “Additionally, they often share that their favorite part of the event is the chance to chat and laugh with students they otherwise would not have met.”
By volunteering for this event, CSU students claim that they feel a greater connection to the Fort Collins community. “This year students have shown their dedication in numbers we have never seen before. This is going to be the biggest Fall Clean-Up event we’ve ever organized,” Emerson said.
