Media Advisory: Alcohol Task Force to Present Final Recommendations to Colorado State University President on Feb. 1
Alcohol Task Force to Present Final Recommendations to Colorado State University President on Feb. 1; Penley to Discuss Immediate Actions and Next Steps
The Colorado State University Alcohol Task Force will present its final recommendations to President Larry Edward Penley. Colorado Lt. Gov. Jane Norton, chair of the task force, will present the committee's final report. Penley will provide comments about the work of the task force and next steps for the university. Fort Collins Mayor Ray Martinez will address the city's roles and responsibilities regarding the task force and its recommendations.
10:30 a.m. Feb. 1 in Ammons Hall, which is located on the north end of the Oval on the main Colorado State campus in Fort Collins.
More than 40 recommendations will be provided to President Penley; however, only a handful of recommendations will be detailed at the event. Copies of the report will be made available to the media. Interviews with Lt. Gov. Norton, President Penley and task force leadership will also be made available to media.
The Alcohol Task Force was appointed by Penley to examine a wide range of issues including binge drinking and underage drinking among students, as well as the fraternity and sorority systems and the overall culture of the institution as it relates to alcohol and substance abuse issues.
The Colorado State Alcohol Task Force was established on the belief that the university, in partnership with the community and society at large, owes it to young people and their families to carefully examine the social dynamics and misuse behind alcohol and its tragic impacts on lives and communities.
A Web site is accessible at www.colostate.edu that includes the charge of the task force and each subcommittee and lists meeting times, agendas, minutes and additional background information.
